Jack Martin was the Materials Director for Electro Motive Division, General Motors Corp, when I was hired in 1972. Rumor was he was a WW 2 submarine comander, a fact I now was able to confirm from this historical site.

As he has no personal history shown, I would add what little I know. I believe he was a Naval Academy graduate, submarine commander and then went on to the Bureau of Ships leaving the Navy as a Captain. He worked at the Cleveland tank plant managed by Chrysler Corp after his naval career, and then came to General Motors Locomotive Division.

He lived in Western Springs, Illinois during his time of employment at General Motors and for most of his retirement which started about 1975. I always noticed his name and that of his wife on the list of members of the Theater of Western Springs.

He was a proud man who knew what he wanted and where he was going.
When he walked, he walked with his head held high and with a detirmined stride. I can see how the Navy selected him as a submarine commander.

Sadly he passed on in 2003 or 2004.
