 M.I.A. sub

A long time ago I went to Galveston,Texas to see the USS Texas on display and I saw a tribute display to a missing US sub that never returned to port. The sub called in to say that it was heading home and all was well and 3 days out, then dissapeared without a trace thereafter.Does anyone know the name of the sub on the plaque or have any further information on its dissapearence? My father was WW2 Navy on the USS Harry Lee.Thanks
