 Re: Dogs in US subs?

There were certainly dogs aboard a number of U.S. submarines, but their primary function was that of a mascot. Saltwater contamination of battery cells is fairly obvious, as it smells like a swimming pool or someone doing laundry. I'm not aware of any chlorine poisoning in U.S. boats--at least the ones that survived--but there were a few instances where carbon tetrachloride fumes contaminated the air, resulting sometimes in fairly serious problems at the time and, potentially, even more serious problems later in life.

Do an internet search on "Garbo" and "gar" or "ss206" for information on dogs aboard U.S. subs. Garbo was Gar's mascot.
