 Deck gun configurations

Basicly, I'm trying to amass as much information to try and build a site like this one. That was before I found out this site existed. In the research I've been doing in the past 2 or 3 weeks, I've noticed that some fleet boats have their deck guns fore, and others aft, and others had two. What I want to know is what was the standard when they were built? When did the standard change during the war? Was fore or aft more effective? Which boats had the position of their deck guns changed in refit? Which boats changed the size of their deck guns during the war?
